Towards the end of his experience, Kevin finds himself enjoying and gaining a lot from spiritual disciplines. Through daily homework, which is scripture reading and memorization, and being discipled he finds himself enjoying some of the changes in his life. On of the biggest areas of difference for him is praying. Here is one thing his mentor said about what prayer is all about
1) Remember God is your Father. Prayer is a way that we have a relationship with Him, making it a 2-way street.
2) Prayer is often more about changing yourself rather than God changing His mind or changing things.
As I thought and reflected about this, I had an epiphany: "Prayer is about submission not supplication." See, I've had a struggle in my prayer life and tossed around the argument of how much does prayer affect situations/how does that relate to God's omnipotence? As I get caught up in this theological argument in my head, it deters my prayer life and I try to get things figure out, instead of allowing prayer to change me.
Father, I commit to walking with You in prayer. Rather than seeking You to change things in my life, I pray that You will change me so that I can be used to change others. Change my heart to love others more than myself, to care for those in need, and to be compassionate.
All this reminds me of the new song by Jaron and the Long Road to Love- Pray for You (don't take it literally)
Haven’t been in church since
I don’t remember when
Things were going great
Til they fell apart again
So I listened to the preacher
As he told me what to do
Said you can’t go hating othes
who done wrong to you
Sometimes we get angry
But we must not condemn
Let the good Lord do his job
And you just pray for them
I pray your brakes go out
Running down a hill
I pray and flower pot falls
From a window sill
And knocks you in the head like I’d like to
I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls
I pray your flying high when your engine stalls
I pray all your dreams never come true
Just know wherever you are
Honey, I pray for you
Really glad I found my way to church
Cause I’m already feeling better and I thank God for the words
So I’m gonna take the high road
And do what the preacher told me to do
You keep messing up
And I’ll keep praying for you
I pray your tire blows out at 110
I pray you pass out with your best friend
And wake up with his and her tattoos
Wherever you are, near or far, in your house or in your car
Wherever you are honey, I pray for you
I don’t remember when
Things were going great
Til they fell apart again
So I listened to the preacher
As he told me what to do
Said you can’t go hating othes
who done wrong to you
Sometimes we get angry
But we must not condemn
Let the good Lord do his job
And you just pray for them
I pray your brakes go out
Running down a hill
I pray and flower pot falls
From a window sill
And knocks you in the head like I’d like to
I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls
I pray your flying high when your engine stalls
I pray all your dreams never come true
Just know wherever you are
Honey, I pray for you
Really glad I found my way to church
Cause I’m already feeling better and I thank God for the words
So I’m gonna take the high road
And do what the preacher told me to do

Wherever you are honey, I pray for you
